Happy Tuesday Bloggies!!! This is Sydney, stopping in to share some of my current favorite reads/listens that have kept me occupied these past fews months. Lately, I have realized that I am just happier when I am reading a good book–my routine is to curl up in bed (dangerously early sometimes…) and fall asleep with Kindle in hand. I also like to take walks and listen to audiobooks–which has been especially nice lately with the crisp Fall air and leaves changing, I even saw a bright red cardinal today!
So, if reading and/or listening to books is part of your routine or need some inspiration–here are a few of my recommendations!
The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd was a novel that greatly surprised me–the story centers around two sisters from a wealthy, Southern family in the early 1800s. The older sister, Sarah is “given” a slave girl, Hetty, for her 11th birthday and the story follows their lives together. The surprising part is that these two sisters, Sarah and Angelina, were real women who were some of the first to fight for women’s rights and abolitionism–truly inspiring!
I was never really one for reading young adult literature, but after reading Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell, I got hooked on her style and clever stories and have read a few of her books now. Attachments was a fun read, where we meet a hapless IT guy, who becomes entwined in the lives of two of his coworkers as he monitors their email conversions. I highly recommend anything by Rowell if you need a quirky love story!
Have any of you read #GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso, founder of Nasty Gal yet? Her story is pretty fascinating and she shares some interesting wisdom from her journey–if you like peeking into the making of a person, and a business, give this a read!
If you believe what you are doing will have positive results, it will–even if it’s not immediately obvious. -Sophia Amoruso
If you are a fan of Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, or just need a creepy Halloween read, I recommend Dark Places. I listened to this on audiobook and it definitely spooked me! I am not going to give too much away–just don’t listen to this at night while home alone!
Lastly, if you love the Netflix series Orange is the New Black (which, come on, who doesn’t?!) you should definitely read (or, in my case, listen) to the memoir that started the sensation! I was surprised by how much the series stayed true to the book but it was also fun to see where they took creative license!
Hope you enjoyed this little round up and that it gave you some new titles for your listening or reading pleasure!
