Compass Symbolism
The compass symbol was a popular one on our Etsy shop, and for a good reason! Not only is it a beautiful, symmetrical symbol, but it holds a variety of meanings and significance.
The compass points in four directions; North, South, East, and West, harkening back to sailors and ships traversing the stormy seas on their way home from a long journey. The compass holds meaning for a traveler, being a symbol for guidance, the ability to point you in the right direction. One thing that I find interesting is the Latin root behind the word itself. Compass is derived from “corn,” meaning “together,” and “passus,” meaning “way” or “route.” Fitting for the adventurer, no?
Does the compass hold special significance to you? Anyone out there has a compass tattoo? I would love to see it!
